When mountain bike season ends (for some it doesn’t, kudos to y’all riding before the freeze-thaw cycle) you can’t wait for the next one to begin. Recently, the Explore Kentucky team caught wind of another race series in the works. To our Kentucky mountain bikers, summer of 2018 will have the cross-country series you’ll want to clear the calendar for. From the organizers of the 10-year-running Louisville Short Track Series comes the new Bluegrass Mountain Bike Cup (BMC).

We spoke to Brian Segal, a race organizer with over a decade of experience, about his plans for the BMC.

“We want to bring a fun atmosphere to cross-country racing,” said Segal, “we have categories for everyone.”

Starting in June, there will be a six-race series throughout the Commonwealth. Ben Hawes in Owensboro, Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Capital View in Frankfort, and Waverly and Cherokee in Louisville are a few of the confirmed locations. Other locations to be determined. What separates the BMC from other events is that each race is put on by locals. This makes every race feel at home.

Segal explains that the goal of the series is to deliver quality. The combination of familiar race courses and consistency will make the BMC the elite event in Kentucky. “We want to put on the best series we can,” said Segal.

It’s coming, folks; the next big competition the mountain bike community needs. Y’all won’t want to miss out on the Bluegrass Mountain Bike Cup. Keep up with the action as it unfolds on Facebook and we’ll see you on the race course!
