The Explore Kentucky Initiative is an organization dedicated to promoting active lifestyle in Kentucky’s outdoors. We do this via events, environmental education, & guided outings. We also strive to be a resource for outdoor exploration in Kentucky—find the best place to paddle in the Big South Fork, your next favorite climbing route, or amazing watering hole to replenish at after an adventure. We publish engaging articles from our Field Journal Contributor Network including high quality imagery, maps, and more.. So what are you waiting for? Explore Kentucky!

Reed Mattison Fall 2017 Intern @WRMATTISON Email: wrmattison@yahoo.com College: Western Kentucky University Certification : - SOLO Wilderness First Responder - Red Cross Lifeguard I’m a photojournalism student at Western Kentucky University.  I am a self-proclaimed jack of all trades. Riding bikes predates my memory, but more recently I’ve developed my skills as a climber, fly fisherman, orienteer, and all-around outdoorsman. Photography has always been an artistic outlet for me. Recently I’ve combined my passion for the outdoors and photography as I am now the intern for the Explore Kentucky Initiative. My favorite thing to do is showcase the growing outdoor scene in Kentucky through pictures, video, and writing.  From shooting paddle sports on the Ohio to trail development in my own home of Bowling Green, I aim to find the best stories about exploration in the commonwealth. My long-term goal would be to write for a magazine or freelance as an adventure sports journalist. However, I’ve always had dreams of having my own bike shop. In short, if it needs to be photographed, filmed, organized, or built—I want to do it.  And if it can be ridden, climbed, paddled, or hiked—I want to go.
