The 2018 Lovely Laurel River Lake Paddle Blast & Beach Party

The  Lovely Laurel River Lake Paddle Blast returns as part of the Kentucky Waterman Series with 2 awesome courses; the 5000 Meter (3.1 Miles) Round the Island Sprint Race and the 10 Mile LL Open Race. All races launch from  the spillway beach at picturesque Laurel River Lake which is surrounded by Daniel Boone National Forest. This year the Paddle Blast is proud to be apart of the Southern Stoke Series, a series of SUP races that happen around the Southeast.

Be sure to bring your beach chair, sunblock, umbrella, and a fun spirit!

Entry fees are non-transferable. Race credit is available for future Kentucky Waterman Series Events.

Free Stand-up Paddleboard Demo

Are you a stand up paddleboarder? Maybe you've seen people paddling along on "those giant surf boards", and wanted to try it out. Or maybe you're just looking for a way to get out on the water, and perhaps get a little exercise at the same time. If any of these apply to you, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for to try out a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)! Come join the Explore Kentucky Initiative and Endless Summer Paddle Company for a FREE on-the-water demo day at Laurel River Lake. This is your best-ever chance to hit the water, try some quality boards, and get some tips from American Canoe Instructors SUP instructors Gerry James and Mimi Hahn, two of the most avid promoters of the sport in Kentucky.  Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro, you will not want to miss this event.

The 1.5 Mile Paddle What You Got Race is a loop course. Paddlers line up just off the spillway beach and then they streak around a beautiful forested island and back the to beach twice. Depending on your experience, it will take between 25 minutes to 40 minutes to complete the course. This is a great opportunity to get into the racing scene and to see what you can do!

Paddler will receive:

  • Support boats stationed along the course all day in case they are needed.

  • Professional medical and communications coverage on the course.

The 5000 Meter Round the Island Race is a loop course. Paddlers line up just off the spillway beach and then they streak around a beautiful forested island and back the to beach twice. Depending on your experience, it will take between 55 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes to complete the course. This is a great opportunity to get into the racing scene and to see what you can do!

Paddler will receive:

  • Lovely Laurel River Lake Paddle Blast Shirt
  • Support boats stationed along the course all day in case they are needed.

  • Professional medical and communications coverage on the course.

  • Post-Race Meal from Taco Holler.

10 Mile Laurel River Lake Open Race

Saturday,july 7th

Starting Location Address:(86-98 Robert E.Blair Memorial Highway, Corbin, KY 40701)

This is a 10 mile race that starts on the spillway beach and loops around the main body of Laurel River Lake. The 10 Mile Laurel River Lake Open Race is for intermediate to elite paddlers with the skill and fitness to complete this endurance challenge. Depending on your craft, experience, and river conditions: it will take between 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete the course.

  • Support boats stationed along the course all day in case they are needed.

  • Professional medical and communications coverage on the course.

The 1 Mile Youth Race is an out and back course. Paddlers line up just off the spillway beach and then they streak around a beautiful forested island and back the to beach. Depending on your child's experience, it will take between 15 minutes to 30 minutes to complete the course. This is a great opportunity for youth to try out racing scene and see what they can do!

Youth Paddler will receive:

  • Award
  • Support boats stationed along the course all day in case they are needed.

  • Professional medical and communications coverage on the course.
